850 dies on me
Hi All
Got this problem with my 93' 850 2.5 20valve 63,000miles. Starts up ok idles ok but will be driving along and all power just goes on me! I then have to stop at the side of the road with my foot to the floor untill the revs come up as it sits there idling,I then drive a couple of hudred yards and it does it again. The car is decatalysted and has a cone intake filter. Thanks for your help Maltatrucker |

RE: 850 dies on me
Check all the hoses between the airflow meter and throttle body are secure and not split.
Try pulling the fault codes if your car has a diagnostic unit behind the drivers headlight. Simon |

RE: 850 dies on me
If there's no fault codes then it could be the fuel pump relay.
Does it cut out while driving or only when idling? Regards Andy P.S. Welcome to the forums. |

RE: 850 dies on me
Hi
The engine doesn't cut out it just losses all power while driving and drops to idling |

RE: 850 dies on me
Oh, well it isn't the fuel pump relay then.
The first thing I'd do is to remove the cone filter and re-fit the standard airbox. If you want a performance filter get a panel filter to fit in the standard airbox. All the cone filter does is to draw hot air into the engine. How long have you had the cone filter? If fitted recently it could be related to that. There are instructions in the Haynes manual for pulling the fault codes on your car. When you've got them post here with the codes. Regards Andy |

RE: 850 dies on me
Hi I got these following codes from the socket.
A2: 3-1-1 A2: 5-1-1 A6: 2-1-4 A7: 1-2-2 The cone filter has been on for a couple of months now but the cat was removed a couple of days ago Thanks Maltatrucker |

RE: 850 dies on me
a2 311= vehicle speed sensor signal absent
The speedo and ecu use the same sensor I believe. Does the speedo work OK? a2 511= Long term fuel mixture too rich at idle A6 214= RPM sensor signal absent intermittently I think this is what is causing the problem A7 122=Temperature sensor signal interval too long There are plenty of people who have fitted cone filters and removed the cat without it causing engine problems. RE: 850 dies on me
Do you think there may be a common cause for all these errors such as a dodgy multipin connector?

RE: 850 dies on me
Thanks for the reply.
I was thinking could there have made any damage done to the ECU when they welded the straight pipe instead of the cat as I noticed when I went back to collect the car they did not disconect the battery. Thanks Darren |
