Roof problem[s]
This is on my step daughters 2001[Y reg] C70.Whether the issues are interconnected or separate I don't know but here goes.
Opening: The roof opens as it should until the very last operation when the tonneau cover doesn't quite close enough to lock until the dash switch is released and then pressed again at which pointit drops that last fraction of an inch and locks down. Closing: This is the real pain. The roof will close as it should until the rear of the roof closes down at which point the two catches seem to hit something solid shortly after passing through the slots in the tonneau cover so the bottom edge of the roof is an inch or two away from closing. To get it to shut fully you have to wind it shut with the manual bits in the boot, but the next time the roof is opened and shut it's the same issues. We did try disconnecting the battery for an hour to see if that would reset anything[although why it would randomly malfunction in the first place I've no idea]this "cured" it but then 3 days later it was back to malfunctioning and disconnecting the battery no longer has any effect. Any ideas as to what has gone out or range/broken and how to fix gratefully received. |

As Simmy says. I understand your stepdaughter is on facebook. If she hasn't already joined the Volvo c70 mark one roof problems and fixes group she needs to. That is where most of the expertise is now and where she will find paul and mark.

Could this be a lubrication problem? The motors probably need all the help they can get at the full open and full closed positions.

Firstly, disconnecting the battery will reset the clock but little else.
With regard to opening - there is a microswitch on each cover deck lock, they are connected in series, I would make sure they are free and working. Also, when you operate the roof manually make sure you do as per the instructions and end with turning the T handle back I think half a turn to re-lock the motor gearbox. With regard to closing - it's normal that the two roof latches go into the slots on the deck and hit something solid - this is the latch mechanism - what should then happen is the two latches are then pulled down so the tension bow is pulled onto the cover deck (rather than the tension bow motor pushing it down). This I think is more likely down to the rear latch potentiometer which senses when the latch it in the cycle and bolts to the LH latch mechanism. I would start by removing that and cleaning with contact cleaner. These documents may help......
