Default Intermittent, starting problem.

Hi guys, wondering if there’s anybody who can help me, I’m having intermittent issues when inserting the fob. The problem is, on entering the fob the dashboard lights up as normal and then when I push the break then the start button nothing happens and the instrument panel goes completely black as if it’s off, . I have to remove the key put it back in and go through the process again, I’ve never had to do it more than twice, but it does seem to have got worse. Does anybody have any ideas that could be causing this problem?
The model is a V70 2008. D5

Thanks
Paul.

Have you checked the state of the battery? The start sequence is computer computer controlled and if the ECM is not getting the current it requires, it may not run the sequence.

I have a 2009 V70 and have a similar problem. Sometimes it fires right up, other times, I hear the steering unlock, the dials show the time, fuel, odometer etc, but no other lights and it fails to start. Taking fob out and putting it back in sorts the issue *most of the time*, but sometimes it will take 3 attempts. It got progressively worse over the last few months.

Both car & fob battery are new.

One thing I noticed recently - if I push the fob into the slot a little (not too much force, but more than the slot does on its own) while it's being pulled in, then it seems to fire up on first go more often.

Not sure why that would be.
