Default MAF Sensor

Hi guys,

Can anybody tell me how I can check my MAF myself on the car? I brought it to my dealership who told me it is ok but I ain't convinced. It is a 1992 car so isn't OBD II compliant so I'm not convinced that they tested it fully.

Thanks in advance,

Colm

If it's faulty it will throw the lambda light on your dash and your car will go into limp home mode. What makes you think it's faulty?

Lol, thats an old one you have dug up there Craig.....
In my experience, the problem with sensors is that rather than just break, they tend to give off erroneous readings causing the ECM to perform erratically....Provided the readings are within the ECM perameters no DTC will be logged even tho the readings may be well out from what they should be....Often the complete disconnection of a faulty sensor will allow the car to run much better (in default mode) ....
AFAIK there is no DIY test on a Maf...
Cheers
Jod

Just replaced the maf on my car as jod says if you disconnect it will run as mine did (strange that mine would not start with the defective maf connected after it was stopped) the emissions light came on as soon as the maf failed

Same here-

My started acting a bit erractic, over maybe a year.
Started by inctreasing RPM momentarily after a stop, later the engine stalled for just a second, causing it to die through a round about. (automatic trans)
one morning on my way to work it kept stalling, just for an instant, but like every second minut.
I stopped and disconnected the MAF sensor and the stalling was cured.

There was no way that I could meassure the sensor to locate the error as it was periodic.

So, as already suggested, disconnect the sensor to see if that issue is cleared.
