What Is The Worst Car You've Ever Owned?
My worst car was my Ford Galaxy R reg TDi ( ex taxi ) I bought it in July of last year and the lad said it just needed a cv boot for its M.O.T. It Looked good, really clean and drove well.As soon as the kids broke up for school I took delivery as he was using it for school runs I booked it straight in for an M.O.T and it failed on :
One tyre...inside side wall torn Emissions......way too high steering rack gaiters....torn and imbalanced brakes. New filters and some Wynn's additive took care of the emissions and my uncle fitted new gaiters and a quick strip down and clean sorted the brakes. So that was about £100 quids worth of bits and it passed the M.O.T easily.A month later I went to Scarborough and it was going ok BUT when I went above 65mph the engine would go into limp mode.Anyway we got home ok. Driving to my uncles to get him to have a look at it,already suspecting the turbo I was driving gently along when the engine started racing and chucking black smoke out!I pulled over but the engine was screaming its nuts off and the cabin was full of brown smoke!! I ripped the keys out and the bloody thing was still running!I popped the bonnet and with a multi-tool I ripped the attery leads off............It was still running and pumping black smoke out of the exhaust and revving that high and loud it would have put a Spitfire to shame! At that point I was genuinely worried thing might catch fire so rang the fire brigade and they only took about 3 minutes to arrive but in the meantime the constant high revs had caused the manifold to crack and then the cylinder head went and coolant started to pour out and the engine seized! I rang a few breakers for an engine but they are quite hard to get and and I'd had enough so weighed it in and bought my Volvo.( which is another story of me not inspecting a car properly!!). I rang the Taxi driver who is a friend of a friend and he said" nowt wrong with it when I sold it so get stuffed!" I saw him a month ago and his nearly new Octavia has destroyed its bottom end! Shame. |

Easy one - living in the USA in 1976, I had a 1975 US Ford Granada Ghia. 5 litre V8 and only 115 bhp (115 thats right) A dog of the first order. Steering and handling terrible, limited boot space mostly occupied by a massive spare wheel, and 14mpg. Didn't like starting from cold until carb was rebuilt. Only good thing was the Aircon.

Mmm, I guess it would have to be my Montego 1.6L Estate. It was under 3yrs old when I bought & had already had to have a new instrument pod fitted.
At first MOT the rear shocks were toast. Self-levellers at £240 a leg! In the following years, two head gaskets went, cam belt snapped (it survived that with just re fitting a new belt mind). It rusted & random bits of trim fell off.

Mercedes-Benz TE300 diesel. Looked good, was comfortable and nice to drive in many ways but everything cost a bomb to repair. I bought it for £3000 and I suspect I spent £10,000 on repairs before I gave up. Never ever again will I buy a Mercedes and never ever again will I be that stupid.
