264 GL 1977 VOD Speedometer Needle replacement?
Hi Folks
My odometer ( Km/h) stopped working totally and I followed the guide from www.240turbo.com ( fantastic guide ,thanks to Dave ) and managed to get it going again. In the process i manage to snap the speedometer needle ( it looks like it was super glued before ) . I manage to glue it back and calibrate as much as I can and is working now. DO you know where/if i could get replacement needle for this VOD mechanical Speedometer in UK or Europe( KM/h) . I tried some of the sources on 240turbo.com but no response. No luck locally here in NZ. Also I assume the weight of the needle play to the calibration etc so looking for something close to VDO type needle in length/shape & weight Some pic of what was done to fix the odometer and speedo.

I don't have your model Volvo. Mine is a 1989 245 GL, but I have been playing with the odometer after an axle change at 670k miles. It took an electronic box connected to the odometer to allow axle pulses to increase from 12 to 48.
I then had to alter the mileage to current. This the advise: Get a second control panel if possible and practice on it. I found when levering the needle off I easily bent the spindle and it would not go back on, so do use a recognised method of removing them. See Google. If you have to alter the mileage, the spindle holding all the number cogs can be slid sideways using a narrow noised plyers and moving it sideways BrianH |

Repairing v replacing
I’m all for spending hours repairing something with a series of problem solving activities and ingenious fixes - but I think in this case I’d go for a replacement part rather than sticking the needle back on. Someone, somewhere will have a spare uni; or why not replace the whole unit, or keep the bust old one and fit a sat nav and use that as a speedo?
