Unhappy Auxiliary belt.

Greeting from the cold Czech Republic,

My ex-plod 2011 V70 D5 decided to let loose and throw a belt and wheel. Thankfully no damage to anything else.

New belt replaced some three months ago; however, we have had temps of -13C recently and rubber appears not to like it.

Being recovered as we speak and grateful for a solid engine.

The joys of Volvo ownership!

Are you sure there isn’t an underlying issue such as the alternator clutch pulley? Was a genuine belt used? Genuine belt shouldn’t have any issues at -13

Serviced at a Volvo main dealer in Ostrava, now found out they used non OEM parts as they have Russian Cyrillic stampings on them!

Not a happy camper and the vehicle is with an independent to be repaired.

Warning to all others on this site to what is probably a common issue to cut costs amongst main dealers.

-13 shouldn't be a problem. Volvo's of this era were built in Sweden and its not uncommon for Sweden to get well below freezing.

Sounds to me like one of the pulley's was well worn and they just replaced the belt. That's why its important to check the pulley's for any unwanted "play" before just putting a new aux belt on.

I think the pulley was the main culprit, not the belt.

Dealer should be using genuine parts, I agree.
