2009 Jap import V70 2.5T. Is the auto gearbox fluid access via the bolt in the red circle in the picture please?

Yes...

Make sure you can undo the fill port before draining.

That ^^^^^ I've had one that was incredibly tight and I broke 2 torx bits - eventually got it off with an impact wrench.

Came open easily as it had a gearbox flush earlier this year. Should you be able to see the ATF through the hole?

I don't think so. The fluid travels too far down into the transmission to be able to see it from the filling port.

I thought it was possible to extract fluid with a pump via the fill plug. I’m sure someone on here did it this way as a way to change the fluid. But it would also serve the purpose of perhaps inspecting the fluid condition.
