S40 V40 Parts: - Engines on the 1995-2004 cars

Hi guys

As the S40/V40 was a shared platform with Mitsubishi I dont know who the engines came from.

I had a feeling one was a Renault as least and the GDI Mitsubishis.

Any ideas.

I know some of the designations but not much else

B4164S 1587cc
B4184S 1731cc
B4204S 1984cc
B4204T 1948cc Turbo
B4194T 1855cc T4 model

Theres also the Diesel (Renault is it?) and the1834 cc GDI.

I think my 2002 model is B4204S.

The gdi engine is a mitsibushi engine and the diesel is a renault unit but fixed by volvo to be better, all the rest are volvos own.

Thanks Darlo. The Volvos do seem to go for big mileages dont they which is very encouraging.

My diesels just cracked 180000 uses no oil or water and still pulls like a train.

My 1.9D is only on 126k miles, they should go to around 300k miles before needing to be checked internally, its usually something simple that fails though like a stuck thermostat.

Got it in 2010 with 138000 on the clock, previous car was a S40 T4, miss the power but not the fuel bills lol.

Yes I like the 2.0 litre which averages 31mpg. Not bad but like you say nowhere near diesel economy.
