Question Lumpy start up problem

Hi,

I'm worried about my V70 starting. It starts ok but the tickover is lumpy for about 30 seconds. After that it's fine.
There are no fault codes showing up and it has one coil per spark plug so no HT leads and distributor to worry about. The plugs were renewed two years ago and are not due for another year.

I'd like to sort it before it becomes worse as I'm sure it will.

Can anyone help please?

Terry

possibly fuel injector leaking, or a plug on way out

Thanks.
I'll start taking out the plugs to see what they're like.

Doesn't mean the leads or individual coils can't go bad, though.

Well I wouldn't use that time-based criteria to discern that it couldn't be the plugs - a good look at them should tell you whether there's something amiss (either with the plug, or lead / coil).

Default Plugs checked

Took out the plugs. They look good. I'll run the car for a few times now to see what happens. I'm thinking that if the problem carries on I'll replace the plugs next.

Default lumpy

I don't know different the V70 is from the 850 T-5's but the coolant switch goes on 850's and will cause all kinds of problems in starting FYI Eurocarparts have them for £19 inc vat. Not sure what Rufe can do them for might be worth an ask

Default Coolant Switch

Thanks Charlotte001,

The lumpy start persists. I'll look for that coolant switch. Any idea where I might find it if there is one?

Default Found it

hi Charlotte001,

I found the coolant switch. I used an ohmmeter on it this afternoon when cold and the reading was 3000 ohm. When up to temperature it dropped a lot. The engine wasn't stone cold as I had used it in the morning so I don't know if the readings are conclusive.

I had looked at this to get some information

Perhaps I'd better try it again on a proper cold start.

Default Plugs changed

Well I've changed the plugs but there seems to be no change.
