XC70 D5 Using Oil
Hi All
My XC70 D5 185bhp (07 reg, P2) is using a little bit of oil - not massive, but enough to need regular top ups. It's not burning any, and there aren't pools under the car, the intercooler is fine too. So, does anyone have any ideas on where I can look for seepage, or any common place is might be leaking from? Thanks in advance |

This is steadily getting worse - a litre about every 150 miles. No clouds of blue smoke out the back, checked the turbo hoses/intercooler and there is a slight misting inside the rubber hose that replaced the resonator, but not much. Engine appears to be dry underneath.
There is a small amount of 'wetness' where the gearbox meets the engine, but it's only a small amount. Does anyone out there have any ideas? |

It might be at the top of the engine? Mine used to leak passed the oil cap seal. Although I changed it a few times it seemed to take a permanent set quite quickly and loose its sealing power. It would pool in a valley at the top of the engine and then eventually drip onto the floor.
I thought it was the rocker cover gasket, I took it to a specialist who agreed it was and changed the gasket at great cost. But it still did it. I took it to a local more basic garage who had a good look and concluded it was the oil cap seal. |

I would say that by the amount you are using, it would definitely show around the engine and leave traces on the floor.
What makes you convinced it is not burning the oil? |

There are no clouds of blue smoke coming out of it. I now have strong suspicions that it's the DPF that is clogged up. Will try cleaning it out thoroughly and see how that goes
