How to lift and place car on axle stand?
Hi
Next week I will try to change the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) on my V50. I will need to lift up my car and place it on axle stands with help with a big garage jack. My problem is how to lift the car properly with a garage jack and where to place the axle stands? Do you have any good pictures that illustrate where to lift the car and where to place the axle stands? When I lifted the car to change tires, I lifted where the original jack is places and that's not good as the garage jack only lifts on the 3mm thick steel egde. //Kensy |

Look in your manual. It should be written in there where to jack it up on.

The manual only mentions lifting it with the supplied jack, nothing about a trolly jack or axel stands.
I have a look in the Haynes manual when in Halfords and that said to use a trolley jack on the scissor jacking point and nowhere else, never thought to look where it mentioned to position axel stands. |

Hmm, I thought it did... Or I'm mixing it up with another manual.
Otherwise: under the car you will see some cut outs, where the car is normally lifted on the car jack. Behind them is a flat spot (at least on the C30). I've lifted my car on them at the front and via the main axle frame at the rear...

Well the Haynes manual just says...
"When using a trolley jack or axle stands, always position the jack head or axle stand head under, or adjacent to one of the relevant wheel changing jacking points under the sills. Use a block of wood between the jack or axle stand and the sill." Obviously jacking exactly where the supplied jack goes isn't going to work because it engages with the ridge of the sill, I think you'd have to put them just behind the spot where the underside is flat (as Daim mentioned).

I have used Trolley jacks to jack my S40 and just used the most solid piece of metal I could find under there.
I'll Try and take a picture of the points I used and had no issues with. You could also try this method...
