Default Cruise Control knocking off

Hi guys, I've just done a 530 mile round trip to collect my son and on the way back my cruise control switched itself off three times. The weird thing is that the last time it did this was when I did the same journey in October, both times after the 250/300 mile mark. I use cruise control every day on my work commute and it works flawlessly, but twice on this long journey it's misbehaved.

Could this be a fail safe/safety measure performed by the car as the cruise has been on too long or is it a fault?

The car was serviced two weeks ago at a Volvo dealership and no fault codes were detected.

Thanks
Elfed

I would think that you are experiencing an actual problem. Are you sure at these time it has knocked off that you've not touched the brake or clutch pedal and definitely not hand your hands on the steering wheel button? If your answer is no then I would guess that you have a faulty or very sensitive position sendor for the brake or clutch pedal.

Either way I wouldn't think that those parts are expensive. I also use my cruise on a daily basis and would certainly miss it if it was not working.

Hi, no I definitely didn't touch anything as that's what I thought in October. I just think it's strange how it happened on that same journey in October and then nothing till yesterday. My journey to work is 44 miles round trip and nothing happens then, weird?

I had this a couple of times and unfortunately it was just before I needed the EGR replacing. Not really sure if related but never had it since....

hope it is *not* the same for you...!

The car runs fine otherwise, I take it that replacing the EGR is an expensive job?
I drove to work with the cruise control on and no problem, it seems to be linked to this long journey, and strangley enough, it's happened near enough the same place on the M4 twice, probably not linked.
Could be something to do with heat?

Isn't the clutch pedal sensor a weak area on Volvos? That could cause the cruise to cut out.

If for example the DSTC activates itself and needs to regulate, it will turn the CC off. Did the skid lamp flash?

It wasn't near an MOD establishment was it, I was parked near Lulworth Cove and the MOD ranges there and 2 cars in the car park both Volvos the alarms were going off, on leaving I went past another MOD site and all the interior lights came on for a moment. never happened before or since.

I regularly have mine on and even for long journeys where I can be on constant cruise for many hours at a time. It shouldn't be heat or mileage related and must just be a coincidence that it was approx the same place. Unless there is a big bump in the road at that point which is causing what Daim says above.

The only time mines ever turned itself off beyond the usual breaking or gear change is when I foolishly swerved to avoid a fox on the motorway at about 75.
