Trim damage
Hi all,
I decided to spray my calipers this weekend, as they were looking a little tired so to speak. However, the jack slipped from underneath the jacking point on the passenger side & as a result of force, the plastic trim on the underside of the door and the plastic sill are now damaged. It happened so quickly, but luckily no one was hurt. I think the jack I was using wasn't the best for the job, as the actual part that lifts the car had a wide head/fitting on it, which in turn didn't attach to the jacking point correctly which probably caused it to slip. Never trust a jack as they say! Does anyone know where I can get these trim pieces from so I can replaced the damaged ones? Its a 2007 S80 in black. *An image of trim parts required is in the next post below* Last edited by Kev0607; May 19th, 2019 at 19:23. |

I rang Volvo today. They said both trim pieces as shown in the above image come to £272 including VAT! A complete rip off for two pieces of plastic in my opinion.

You are correct it's a rip off but most things volvo are over priced as a matter of course. I would start scouring breakers but remember on top of the trim to budget for new clips Now if you want rip off wait till you see what volvo charge for trim clips. For trim clips find a good independant motor factor.. The real insult is that when you get the bit off it will probably have Fo Mo Co stamped on the back. The P3 volvo V and XC70 is a Mondeo in drag, the only volvo bits is the engine and ford messed with that to make it cheaper. Even the manual gearbox oil is a Ford spec. Paul. |

Perhaps it's different in the UK, but here in Sweden, you'll not have any idea about what a rip off is, until you try to buy a part for a Japanese car.
Even if it's the same part (some Volvo S40 parts are used by Mitsubishi too), the cost can be 5-10 times higher, if it says Mitsubishi on the box, rather than Volvo. |
