Default T5 Gearbox Issues P0716 P0717 P1618

Hi all,

I was driving along in my 2001 V70 T5 earlier in geartronic mode and felt a clunk, as this happened it seemed to lose power and wouldn't shift.

I pulled over and had fortunately I had my fault code reader to hand which gave P0716 and P1618. I cleared the codes and set off again.

2mins down the road same thing happened again. But this time codes P0717 and P1618.

Can anyone advise further? I have found that:

P0716 Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit Range/Performance
P0717 Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal

So is the said sensor easy to replace? Cost? Part number etc? DIY'able or garage only? Rough idea on price?

Thanks

The input speed sensor is shown on the attached photo, apart from access it's a simple 1 bolt and a plug to change it, I'd look for damaged wiring or poor connection first though.

Thanks for your reply Chris, I'm so glad it's external to the gearbox as opposed to being internal.

Looks 'reasonable' to get to although my LPG vaporiser sits just above it.

What would be the said part number? Where would teh wiring likely to fail if it is suspect?

Thanks

Don't know the part number off hand, I'd have a look at the connector plug first. If something else has been fitted near it, it seems it has, then I'd have a look in that area.

If you have a multimeter try measuring the resistance of the sensor, I'll see if I have the correct values.

Only info I could find is that the current in the sensor circuit should be 7mA or 14mA depending if the sensor is near a geartooth or not.
The info was the same for the RPM and speed sensors so they must be the same resistance. Comparing the resistance of each should confirm if the RPM sensor is faulty.

Part number is chassis number specific so you will need to contact a dealer for part No. & cost.

Fixed! (touch wood)

Removed the said sensor and there was a small amount of iron filings on the end of it, cleaned these off and is running fine.

Is that a sign that it requires another gearbox fluid change or is it just normal that as the switch is magnetic it will pick up these?

Mileage is 100k...

I'd suggest you have a look at the condition of the fluid to determine if a change is due.

Maybe it would be worth removing the sensor again in a month or so to see if any more filings have stuck to it.

how do I remove the sensor from the wiring? I think I need to order a new one

There is no connector per se I can make out anyway?
