Hi Fluff110,
I'm sorry about my impatience, but did you have a look hu-850?

Hi,

Sorry, I didn't get a chance to put anything up over the weekend.

Yes the HU has a separate daughter board in the back which has some of the interface to the car and the amplifier for the centre speaker. You can see it on the right-hand side of this image after taking the front controls, top case, CD changer and side panels off:

And this is the board when removed from the main HU board (it just pulls off):

On the left hand side of the board is the amplifier chip with a metal heatsink around it. The daughter board is interchangeable between HU-850s so can be swapped without the car noticing.

Taking the HU apart is very easy - mine was apart and back together in 10 minutes - you just need to make sure you put back the longer screws in the right holes as they hold some components that require cooling to the metal case.

When you take the front panel off, remove the two knobs first, then press in the four smaller "finger" buttons and pull them directly off. This ensures that the panel will come off freely when you unclip it at the sides.

Oh and be careful of the ribbon cable that connects the CD changer to the HU board - it's a little delicate.
