Agreed, cambelt is important on the d24 engine family. It's an interference engine and parts to rebuild after a belt snap are pricey. Do the fuel pump timingbelt at the same time.

I've got the tools to do the cambelt if you want to borrow

I believe they can be done DIY but a few tools are useful to undo some of the bolts. There are a few DIY guides online. I've not done mine yet as it isn't needed for another few miles yet - I only have the tools as I saw them for sale and thought they might be handy sometime soon!

You also need a dial gauge and adaptor to set the pump timing.

Shows that higher final drive you fitted really is paying off Jim.....

As well as gaining 1-2mpg, it's made a rather big reduction in cabin noise. Surprising how much a 7% drop in revs can do!

I had Jims old 3.54 axle Kev to replace my knackered 3.91:1 axle. Has given me a vast improvement in cabin noise when cruising and (surprisingly) slightly better acceleration once the initial inertia is overcome, mainly due to "hanging on" to the lower gears slightly longer.
Day to day economy is about the same but on a run, definitely improved. It gives me about a 10% drop in revs which is very useful!

Update: Purchase made!
It's a 1995 SE with 145k 2 owner car. Needs the rear calipers and a bit of recommissioning (inc belt!).

Hopefully get a few pics up when he gets transport sorted to get it home.

Cheers for all the advice, I'd say there'll be more questions to come
