No worries! I'm off on holiday to North Wales in a couple of weeks, so there's a chance I could bring you back that one from Matt...

cheers

James

Hi Leonardo,

I'm afraid the answer is still the same as it was last time - I had one, but I sold it!

I could've sold that one several times over - I couldn't have been asking enough for it!

cheers

James

thanks james, and sorry,

I must have misread the thread. this gearbox upgrade has become a sort of chimera...

back to the dumb questions, I have a badly clunking prop-shaft I believe universal joints are the culprit. do you happen to know if M47 ones can fit my existing M45 or lengths vary? I cannot find any guidance on identification anywhere.

regards,

leonardo

M47 prop shafts are shorter than M45 items and have a rubber cush drive at the gearbox end rather than a U/J. The back section aft of the sliding joint is the same on both though, if it's that U/J you think is clunking?

thanks ahab, it definitely comes from the gearbox end, there is a lot of play there and the clunking has got worse over the last 5k miles or so. will that go away once the UJ are replaced? I've been dreaming of upgrading to an M46 for ages but they're rare as hen's teeth plus the propshaft shortening issue...

Hi Cyprus!

Apologies for the slow reply. Yes, I have the AW71 and AW71L available. I also have a second AW71 which I removed from a running car myself - that box shifted very nicely indeed, so comes with some assurance attached. The other two were originally from a site clearance, but I have no reason to believe they're anything but serviceable. I'm willing to do a deal on those, especially if you're interested in both.

I'm also going to be in that neck of the woods on Tuesday (and possibly Monday night), and could deliver, if that helps...?

cheers

James

Hi James,

I've just acquired a 1989 740 2.0 which it turns out needs the auto box replacing. Would one of your AW71's fit? Sorry if this is obvious I'm all new to this!

Thanks,
Alan
