I change the driver after the second fuse these days unless I'm sure it's a driver fault when it gets changed imediatly. I belive the cost of these units is considerable so a borrowed known working unit may be a way forward. Paul. |

I did notice a notible clunk when the high beam did work and I operated the stork. Almost like a loud relay, unusually loud |

They're still not LED - the high beams are halogens, plus it moves the gate in the projector assembly to remove the dip cut-off.
Sounds really odd. I'm struggling to see what would cause an intermittent overcurrent or short, aside from a chaffed wire perhaps...? cheers James

Just tried unplugging the lamps via the connector and a new fuse. Took the car for a drive and tried the stalk numerous times. Could hear the relay as normal. Even left it on for about 10 mins. All seemed well. I turned it off and left it. 10 mins later tried it and instantly blew the fuse.
Really struggling now with this. What components are online from the fuse to stalk to lamps? Also one thing I thought was odd, if I unplugged the lamps shouldn't I have had a warning on the dash? |

I'm not sure the bulb monitoring will cover the main beams.
To be clear, the second time, it blew the fuse with the lamps still disconnected? As a next easy step, I would track down the relay, remove it, and repeat the exercise. Beyond that, start isolating sections of wiring (start with the whole CEM-to-headlight run), and look for a short to ground using a multimeter in continuity (i.e. beep!) mode. You might need to leave it connected and go for a drive if it's a vibration-activated short. cheers James

I would be looking at the CEM. I'm not exactly sure on a P3, but I'm sure Google will tell you. It's behind the dash on a P2.
cheers James

It's behind the glove box and also contains a bundle of fuses. You'll need to take the glove box out for proper access. Not that hard but a bit of a PITA.

Thinking about it, I ought to have known it was there - I went looking for the fuel pump relay on my P3 a few months ago! (Spoiler alert: it doesn't have one, being a later model with the variable speed controller)
cheers James
