I guess I’ll never know....but I can’t imagine the residuals between two model years are going to vary by a great deal (as a % of retained value over the contract duration). Here’s hoping anyway ) Let us know if your quote changes over the coming days....
Yes, the price of the car and other payable options that I was quoted is based on the MY19 pricing; it is just the PCP finance quote that is not synced to MY19 for the reasons previously stated. I too do not think there will be a big difference in the reaidual values between both the model years but worth keeping on eye on. Sure, will keep you posted of the info once it comes through.

I had to make few assumptions along the way as follows:

1. I only took 72% (which is based on some T5 reviews on the net) of the Volvo-published economy figures obtained from controlled test conditions as the real world figures.
2. Assumed the miles I would be doing in a year (I based my calculations on 8k miles, 10k miles and 15k miles per annum).
3. Assumed petrol and diesel prices, which I took 10% higher than what they are at the moment just to future proof my calculations.

The results I have got is:
1. The savings on the price of the car due to switching from D5 to T5 will last for approx. 6.5 years to cover the extra fuel bill on a T5 if I do 10k miles per annum. (or)
2. For approx. 8 years if I do 8k miles per annum. (or)
3. For approx. 4.25 years if I do 15k miles per annum.

Or in other words, I have to drive with a D5 engine for those many miles per annum and for those corresponding many years to reap the benefit of better fuel economy of a D5.
I've been having a play around with this too, having just read another diesel bashing article in the papers.

My decision was between a D4 and a T5. They are virtually identical in purchase price, so using some basic assumptions (D4 - 40mpg real world average and £1.23/litre, T5 - 25mpg real world average and £1.20/litre, identical residuals over four years) then over 10,000miles/yr I am £800/yr better off with the D4.

However, got a feeling that this may well be my last diesel car.

It’s all in the numbers, isn’t it!! So, you have taken a decision to go for the D4 that in your case makes it the right economic choice.

Default MY19 coming to a dealer near you soon! Maybe.

Hello all.

So I decided to upgrade my MY11 D5 for a new D4 Inscription Pro and last Wednesday, went in to my nearest dealer, armed with a printout of my required spec from the website.

During the negotiation process, the salesman’s “manager” (they were doing the good cop/bad cop routine) told us that Volvo had recently increased the price, so our spec sheet was out by about £800. He went on to explain that I was looking at MY18, as discussed here in previous posts and they would do the deal on the new price list, i.e. MY19.

Anyhoo, we struck the deal and they took my deposit on the proviso that they would put it on the Volvo order system, as a MY19.

I emailed the dealership this morning, to be told that “the system still does not have the MY19 cars on there yet” and they would let me know when they do. On the order form it says estimated delivery, mid June.

Needless to say, I will be checking my phone, every time a new email arrives...

"For most carlines, the factory will not be ready to accept MY19 orders until March 19"

You should hear today or tomorrow

Thanks Marc. I'm in the same situation with a pending MY19 XC90 T5 order. The dealer says it hasn't got past "gatekeeper" yet. Hoping it's accepted this week and generates a build date!

Do you think this date is specific to UK only orders or Europe-wide orders?

Default Polestar Optimisation on XC60 T5

Ladies and gents, I am coming to you again for some feedback:

My understanding of the Polestar optimisation is that it is a software upgrade rather than a mechanical one to enhance engine performance in five different areas. My question is: what sort of impact would this optimisation have on fuel-consumption of an XC60 T5 and is it something worth having on T5, which already is slightly more powerful? Thanks in advance.

Yes, the Polestar optimisation is just a Software upgrade.
It has no impact to fuel consumption when you review the individual optimisation engine sheets, but obviously if you decide to then drive it faster you get the obvious result in mpg data.
Finally, as to is it worth it - well then is very subjective.

My angle is that I will always want more power and if its available then I must have it no matter if it's a D5 or T5. But the other key factor in favour of Polestar is that the software improves the drivability of the car with enhancements to various powertrain elements, ie NOT just the engine.
There are many threads on this forum asking why do we have to pay extra for some software that makes the car what is should be in the 1st place, but then many drivers are quite content to potter around and stick to 70 mph limits in which case Polestar would be a complete waste of money -so each to their own.

My advise is that if you are thinking about getting it done, then do it when you 1st get the new car with the cost being part of the original Inv so it will not be seen as an upgrade by Insurance Co's since the car wa supplied by the manufacturer already Polestared.
