"Reduced Engine Performance" appears under hard acceleration
Hi folks,
I have a 2.0T XC60 (MY2011), essentially a Ford Ecoboost engine mated to a 6speed DCT. Recently on long trips via highways, I get a "Reduced Engine Performance" message randomly. It almost always appears only under hard acceleration, but the engine doesn't noticeably loses power - it just becomes less responsive and there is a lack of power for overtaking but am otherwise fine cruising at say 140km/hour to 160km/hour under such conditions. The message doesn't ALWAYS appears once I accelerate hard though - it's a bit random and hence hard for me to pinpoint! Restarting the engine clears the message and power is fully restored. Checking for codes using the Scanlink OBDII bluetooth tool and app doesn't shows any code - even when I check for codes before restarting the engine. It also only happens at high speeds - i accelerate hard during city driving sometimes but never get such messages. Only when I am on a long trip on the highway and at high speeds. I have a Racechip One tuning chip (https://www.racechip.eu/shop/volvo/x...9kw-300nm.html) fitted to the car - could this be causing the issue? Or a clogged fuel filter? Dirty Throttle body? Any ideas what might be the issue? Thanks! Last edited by zensunnidx; Mar 13th, 2017 at 18:14. |

On a completely different engine (V50 1.6 DRIVe diesel - a Ford engine) I experienced the same message when I was just about to run out of fuel. Perhaps it indicates fuel starvation (fuel line blockage which only shows up when maximum fuel being drawn) ?

One of the times it happened was when I was accelerating out of the gas station to join the highway - on a full tank of gas! So doesn't sounds like the issue to me unless my fuel injectors are clogged up.

Mines literally just popped up with the same message. I have a 2012 C30, All power is lost through every gear. In 2nd with my foot down the revs build up but with no power at all. It happened on 2 A roads in the U.K. (Speed limits of 70mph) so over taking on there with no power isn't ideal. I have 110 miles left on the tank but it's never popped up with the message before when I'm low on fuel. My service is due this month but I'm waiting on getting that sorted so perhaps this is why? I'm at 49K miles and need all filters replacing so maybe the message might not show once the service has been done? Let me know if any of you have any advice for me. Cheers

You need to get it plugged in and the codes read before you spend any money.... to do otherwise is likely to waste money. However limp mode under full throttle is usually a boost control problem and often inexpensive to sort.

I had a similar issue when I had a tuning box fitted to one of my cars, (albeit not a volvo) under heavy accelaration it used to go into limp mode, or splutter, had the codes read, and it was fuel pressure related. Mechnic reconned the tuning box was the cause of the issue, removed the tuning box, never had the issue again, assume it was upping the fuel pressure, and spiking it prompting limp mode.
Before doing anything else I would suggest removing the tuning box and see if you still have the issue. |
