Default Very high fuel consumption.

Just wondering if any of you guys have come across any causes for high fuel consumption ?
When I bought the car coming back it was returning 41mpg at 60mph but I knew it wasn't running right, now I have changed the maf and map sensors and changed the N75 and the surge flap , the car is returning 25mpg around town,
I have bought some Moby liquid purge for cleaning out the fuel system and also a new filter is on order, I don't know much about diesels but I am guessing it is something to do with the injectors as it is high mileage. But I can't afford to keep it with that sort of mpg.

Regards Gary

Yes no codes related to the fuelling or the engine, well only one glow plug deleted it and it never came back up,no EML

Yes quite a bit of soot, that's why I think it is injectors, Gatos told me not to bother with injector cleanser as halfords do it for £4 a bottle additive too the tank, but I have bought the Moby liquid now which goes directly into the injectors and not via the tank.

The 25 mpg is way off the mark even for in town use, so if the engine is not smoking from a bad injection system it might well be a fouled EGR or CAT.

It might also be something silly, like stuck rear calipers!

Always read the instructions before using LM Diesel Purge:

See the link to the product data sheet near the bottom of that page.

a can or a bottle of whatever is not gonna fix a problem..from my experience it moves cwap and can often worsen or cause another problem
I would clean egr out and replace fuel filter(often left out in servicing)
also check inlet manifold is not restricted

I would check boost hoses off car and check turbo inlet pipe to maf for small splits
