my friends got a 2003 awd xc70 d5 2.4 turbo and has just over 200k miles on the clock. is this the model with the core plug issues??
do you think its been done previously? no record of it in the service history ... is it an accident waiting to happen now if its still the original plug?? cheers |

Mines an S60 D5 from 2004 and i had the rubber core plug..........which failed, so more than likely it has a rubber one.

yes its possible mine failed at 210k on my v70 it will leak slowly at first and get worse over time. giving you time to fix it just drive. it will let you know when it starts to go . or it may have already been replaced

Mine went with no warning, not a dribble of oil until it popped out, what happens is it moves slowly out of its hole until the flywheel clips it and turns it 90 degrees, then all your oil makes a dash for freedom, usually very successfully.

it was bought around 4 months ago. dropped off at his house and the seller said he had to dash coz he was late to get a plane so couldnt hang around. i suspect its started leaking oil and knowing what could go wrong theyve sold it quick as they can. stupid i know but thats what the person did. just a waiting game now until the plug lets go i guess |

I'm sure I read somewhere a post about someone poking it back in and covering it with a kind of araldite or filling compound of some sort
don't take that as gospel it's just something that I have vaguely in the back of my memory somewhere |
