Default Fuel gauge misbehaving

V70 SE d5 2006 , filled up the other morning , about 60 miles into the 120 mile trip the fuel gauge dropped to empty , all else seemed fine , got to destination, turned off ign , back on again and all well and working , was ok again yesterday , anyone else have this issue ? What was it ?

We had an opposite problem with our first V70 - fuel gauge stayed half full then engine died due to fuel starvation. There are two floats, if I recall, one on each side of the saddleback fuel tank and the final reading is an average. If one goes AWOL you end up with an artificially high or low reading.

Try a bit of harsh braking to see if it dislodges the float.

Mine does exactly the same I just ignore it turning off and on again seems to work
