Evening all,
D5 V70 2004 Struggles to start on occasion, possibly a fuel delivery issue maybe 🤷, a member suggested disconnecting the fuel pressure regulator to see if that made any difference, with that disconnected the car started hunting like missing, so thats obviously working, any common issues? Once it starts its fine, it can turn over attempt to start, cough and splutter then die. As ever any help gratefully received |

If yo haven't already, change the fuel filter to a decent one ie Mann/ Volvo or similar.....Mann are a fraction of the Volvo price and are OE fitment.

you need to get the starting fuel pressure checked and if low then the return flow checked through the injector return pipes . there might be one or two faulty injectors leaking off the fuel pressure back to the tank.

I assume it's not throwing a code?
There are lots of things this can be from fuel pressure to a bad maf to a timing sensor to bad/wrong fuel. |

I'll give you two silly cheap fixes,
1 - Check your battery terminals are clean and more importantly tightened up properly, you should check the earth strap at the same time, if you have time put the battery on charge overnight, 2 - Put an octane booster in the tank, Other than that it's guess work but a lazy starter motor should be considered as well. |

It's a leak-off test you need to do on the injectors - check for excessing leak-off which will reduce fuel rail pressure. Easy enough to make up your own leak-off tester using a bit of plastic tube & 5 small plastic bottles.
