They are more important than an engine remap!

People don't understand right. They spend thousands of quid on their rims and suspension setup as well as engine mapping but then they save when it comes to tyres. Tyres cost, because of the materials used (good rubber is under high demand making the prices higher and cheap tyres have artificial rubber which isn't as good), the technology which is put into the tyre and on top of that, the research for the next generation of tyres.

So if I spend 50 quid on a set of "Vee Rubbers" made in Taiwan, I can't expect the same quality and grip etc. as I would from say a "budget" tyre from Barum or a high quality tyre from Hankook or Kumho or even Conti, Dunlop etc.

The best I saw/experienced once was in Bremen at ATU (a national repair and tyre company). A younger S63 AMG driver bought some 20" rims at ATU and wanted some tyres for them. He ended up with some - not kidding - Linglong or Wanli things to put on a >£100.000 vehicle... And then I spend £120 a tyre on a car worth currently around £4.000!

Who is the stupid one?

You're entire stopping power, grip and cornering etc. is ALL depending on the friction 4 tyres with a contact area on the ground of about one palm... And as tyres are your life insurance, you shouldn't save on them...

The point about tyres cannot be repeated enough.

Down a wet twisty road a car with a high performance tyre like the Continental SportContact5 or Michelin Pilot Sport will leave a much more powerful car on budget tyres for dead...

Yep...

Last year I was out with a former friend in a C30 T5 (around 400 hp!) and he had some rather cheap tyres fitted. I've got good Kumhos (not cheap!).

We drove around some rather tight bends. He was sliding around everywhere, where as I had grip without end. The roads were slightly damp but not wet. When dry, his tyres pull you forwards. When slightly damp: useless.

As you don't get a 365 day sunshine period, a damp road is more common...

Car is back on the road, lower suspension arm fitted, 4 wheel alignment done from the same guy garage. He charged me £30 instead of £50.

I agree, I shouldn't of got the car aligned in the first place. I was having panic attacks so that's why got it aligned straight away.

I'm still not convinced with the part fitted, as the wheel still makes this constant squeaky noise whenever I brake or let go of the pedal. I've been told to replace the rear wheel bearing, as this could be causing the problem. Other garages have said to change rear discs as they are in need of a new set, also there is a slight gap where the calliper and disc touch against each other. There is a slight play on the wheel, you can physically move the wheel forwards and backwards when the car was on jack.

All 4 wheel's are straight now and safe to drive, but I am thinking of changing the bearing and fit it myself.

Can anyone recommend any anti-roll bar kit? Was thinking to fit this at a later stage.

Would this be the correct fitment for my car?
