Hi Simon,
I went to use my dice for the first time today to find out why my T5 had a low speed misfire having changed the plugs and the oil - I broke one of the tabs on a no3 pot coil connector so thought that might be the cause or possibly a failing plug even though new from our favourite Volvo dealer.

Try as I might I couldn't get the laptop to communicate with the DiCe and v.v.

The only lights that showed up were a constantly flashing Firmware status LED,
The USB status lamp flashed once or twice (laptop insisted on updating driver, I tried both denying and accepting - it made no difference.
The vehicle interface status failed to illuminate at all -
The DiCE unit was connected directly to the OBD port.

I tested the OBD port connectivity using a Konnwei 809 (An Autel "lookalike") - it connected correctly to the V70's system & etc found no codes.

I took screen shots of the messages on screen -
Memory test was passed, LED test wouldn't fully run as far as I could see, it failed the communication test (pic 4)












Is there a battery within the DiCe unit that could have failed?

Can you help throw some light on what may have gone wrong?

Oddly the misfire seems to have largely disappeared/cleared - there is an exhaust leak, it is due for a new exhaust to be fitted later in the week which may having something to do with the highly random tickover misfire.

Hi Alan,
Press the Windows Start button then Devices and Printers to see if the Dice is appearing there when powered on and plugged into the laptop.
Plug the Dice into all other USB ports too.

USB COM led flashes when the usb connector is inserted to each port but nothing is showing up on the computer as connected.

Firmware status flashes regular on of green.
Blue LED bluetooth connectivity is out.

No USB COM led
No vehicle interface status led

DiCe shows up in devices and printers as DiCE-206751@000000000000 Properties
but can't find it elsewhere.

Hi Alan,
First of all, make sure that the Dice is firmly inserted into the diagnostic port then try to read the vehicle again.

If still no joy, close down Vida completely.
Then click the Windows Start button and in the search box type "Dice Firmware" and the Dice Firmware update will appear in the results. Click on it.
Select the Dice model number in the top box
Click the button with 3 dots on and double click the Firmware file (5.6.2)
Run the Firmware update then close the update utility.

Open Vida and try to read again.

I tried updating the firmware before I posted, I also tried updating drivers which the Win& Pro decided it wanted to install (probably those from the Vida disc) it still isn't found via the "computer" folders route, still only in devices - I'm just wondering whether I'd be better off running it via VMware on a windows 10 laptop. Trouble there is I'm bery short of time as the motor's off to my indy on Thursday for some his TLC. & an MOT.
As you tested the unit before you sent it out, I doubt whether there is problem with the DiCe - I think my best bet is probably to fully uninstall everything from the Win 7 Laptop, and install to the Win10 laptop from a clean date updated disc. Can you sell me a new DVD one please?
If that doesn't do the trick then maybe you test the DiCE unit - I'm happy to pay for your diagnostic time.

The Dice was tested and it's worked well for you but you've had it a while so it's not infallible.
