Default The differences between inner tie rods (with pics)

Just thought about sharing these pictures which show the two types of inner tie rods, depending on the model of steering rack - these tie rods cannot be interchanged because the toe doesn't have enough movement for proper adjustment. I believe these also need blue thread lock. The year of change for the rack type is 2004 but I'm not sure when exactly during the 2004 so double check which rack you have - here's how to check for the SMI rack https://youtu.be/CxdHQt_XDhw

I got the wrong ones, ZF. They were about 40mm too long and the thread on the inner end is coarser than the SMI, which, if I'd bothered to look in the first place was embossed on the rubber boot at the inner end as in your video.

Thanks for this helpful post!
I recently took my car for alignment and they asked if the steering rack had ever been changed (it hasnt to my knowledge) because they said there was no/not enough adjustment in the tie rods. The outer rods and threaded all the way into the inner rod, which makes me think I have the wrong ones.
My rack boots say SMI and the car is 2002. The outer tie rods currently on are TRW ones. Is it just the inner tie rod which is different? I actually have a set of SMI compatible inner and outers and am kicking myself for not changing them. The existing ones seemed fine so I didn't want to mess unnecessarily.

Turns out I had the wrong inners on mine which have the shorter threaded portion of the stud. I also changed the puters which whilst the same length as the ones on it were very slightly different shaped. The ones on it were TRW and I replaced with Meyle. Should be able to get it aligned properly now!

Default V70 Inner tie rods

Hello All,
can anyone tell me what length inner tie rods are available for the V70?

Are there different length outer tie rods does anyone know?

My 2006 V70 has excessive toe-in because the adjustment is at the limit.

I am in the process of replacing inners and outers with new "correct" rods but these appear to be exactly the same length as the ones that were on there.
Inner rods were 150mm long.
I suspect nothing is going to change, but the originals were seized solid and had to be cut offat the lock nut.
