I thought Nivomats were only fitted at the rear as they designed to compensate for loads at the back end? Is it perhaps 4C you have?

Hi Simon,

Thanks for your message.
In my model I can chose three different settings: Comfort, Sport and Advance. The response of the car is different in terms of engine and stiffness of suspension. So I think all the four shock absorbers are Nivomat?
Cheers,

Luca

That will be the active chassis - four C shocks you are looking for then.

nivomat shocks were only ever fitted to the rear of the car and are self adjusting according to the load being carried, no user adjustment is possible.

A good place to start is to identify why they need replacing. The main fault with any type of shock absorber / damper is the seal fails and leaks oil. With with earlier S80/S60/V70 you are looking at somewhere over £300 each and the best price was often found by contacting Monroe directly as they make them. Even then, they only tend to make them in small production runs when they have orders for enough.

Changing front shock absorbers is generally a job left to a garage who's got a decent press to compress the strut to release the spring and shocker. If it were me, I'd let your local independant Volvo specialist source and fit the parts for you.

Problem is that no indepedent Volvo specialist in my area. Only offcial Volvo as far as I know.
As per their condition, they are leaking and they make a bad sound when I hit a road bump!
Thanks a lot.

I've no experience of Deeside Motor Centre, but did swing by there when I was up there a while back and they seem to specialise in Volvo. They're 40 miles away from you but probably better value than a main dealer. Give them a call and see what they suggest.
