2004 XC70 rear camera cable route
I want to fit a rear window camera to my XC70. Whilst I'm in there' I'm planning to fit the reversing camera I've had for a while and hook it up to the head unit.
Anyhow, my question is about routing cables from the body of the tailgate into the car. I'm guessing the best way is to follow the tailgate loom or the rear washer fluid pipe alongside the hinges, through the grommet and into the car. Doesn't look to be a ton of space to get anther couple of cables through the grommets without compromising them. Anyone done this already? |

Hello eternal optimist.
I've done a single cable for a reversing camera using exactly the route you describe into the tailgate. Be gentle with the wires in the hinge are, they are renowned for breaks and cracks, it's a good opportunity to inspect them whilst all the trim is removed. I spliced my cable so no connectors had to be threaded and the reversing camera is mounted top dead centre on the inside of the glass looking down. I can see pretty much level with the back bumper to about 1.5 car lengths away and being inside I don't have issues with the lens getting filthy from road spray. The rear wash wipe works on the rear glass where the camera looks, I couldn't believe my luck when that one worked out! |

Thanks - wasn’t really wanting to cut and splice the cables in case they were shielded. Might not have any option though.
