Gearbox / clutch noise
Got a 13 plate V40 D2 with 55k on the clock. Full Volvo service history . Last week hubby noticed a noise on idle and driving , low rumbling not high pitched squeel . Noise goes away when you push down on clutch . Car goes into gear fine no issues . I'm thinking input bearing ? ..any ideas ..goes into Volvo tomorrow for them to have a look at it ..£ 90 to drop oil and have a look ..🙄 cheers in advance ..😉

Same symptoms... how serious this fault might be?
Looks like I have exactly the same symptoms. Volvo V70 2009 (2008 plate) D2.0
Yesterday I've heard a low rumbling sound when decelerating / engine braking, that lasted just a few seconds. Today I forgot about this and when only half a mile from home the same rattle could be heard. Then when parked heard the noise when switching off. Switched on to check again, and quiet when the pedal pushed down but rattles when released. What did they say in Volvo garage? I wonder whether I should avoid driving at all cost, or can still commute to work later this week... Just one week after MOT and on the way from the garage after booking trailing arms bushes... Sounds like the springs in the DMF are ****** to me.
I'd be pricing up a new clutch, or depending on miles/age of car, having very strong words with Volvo about covering/contributing to the cost.

Thanks. The car is 10 years old and 104k miles. Seems I'm out of luck with this one... Trouble after trouble.

Another unlucky owner
Same here. 80K on clock, 63 reg. Was told the gearbox failed, £3500+ to repair!
