Default Drivers seat belt not releasing from buckle: 1998 V70

Hi All

1998 V70

The drivers seat belt sometimes does not release from its buckle. If I fiddle around, and try again I can get it out, but I want to fix this for myself and also for an upcoming MOT.

I don't see how to remove the black plastic covers on the buckle, so I can't see the mechanism inside.

Can I spray something inside the buckle, or should I replace with a used buckle that I have?

The drivers side buckle has the wiring connector. Can I separate the wiring from the buckle, or do I have to follow the wiring back and replace the buckle and its wiring loom?

Thanks
Steve

PS

If I wanted new, Skandix has this

http://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts...-belt/1020061/

but I would like to do it more cheaply if I can.

I'd start with a quick spray of silicone. Easy, cheap and worked on mine.

Had the same problem with mine, after a bit of research it would seem you shouldn't use an oil based lube as dirt can stick to it and cause further problems later on. I used a tiny squirt of WD-40 Specialist Anti Friction Dry PTFE and it has worked perfectly since. Available in Halfords for around a fiver

Hi all,

Well, I sprayed into the mechanism twice with brake cleaner working the buckle in and out quite a few (30+) times.
Also depressed the internal catch with a small screwdriver and sprayed there again.

Then sprayed a small amount of silicone spray (not grease).
Then worked the buckle in and out again quite a few (30+) times.
And again a small spray with the internal catch depressed.

If I had had some around I would have used a dry lube spray and if I had had more time I would have looked into the spray recommended above.

Seems fine now, every time.
That was a lot less work than changing the buckle and loom.

Ended up buying 400ml from Toolstation

https://www.toolstation.com/wd-40-sp...st-ptfe/p50617

for £6.95

rather than 250ml for £4.99 from Halfords
https://www.halfords.com/motoring/en...ubricant-250ml

although the Halfords is actually cheaper per ml
