I thought it felt abit spritely
I thought my v70 d5 felt a bit quick..but put it down to me coming from 2.2tid saabs slow agricultural diesels, until I remove the engine cover and found a box cable tied to the top roll bar ..I cut off the cable ties turned it over and it's a p-box tuning device ..I've had s60 diesels before I was expecting the estate to be a bit slower but no..I think these boxes work, although I might unplug it and take it for a spin see if it's any different .....

Nice little bonus there if they do work. I'd advise removing it for the moment though for the simple reason that it may be related to the cutting out. Not sure of how it's connected, but if it's hard wired or is in between two loom plugs then it may well be a dodgy connection.
That would be a nice easy fix. Also bear in mind that if you were to be involved in any accident the insurance company might use it to wiggle out of any liability if it's not been declared to them (OR if it were still to be found on the car when the assessor looked at it, anyway). Having said that, I would be interested in the make/model of the box if you find it does make a noticeable difference. Our 163 also feels quick, but I put this wholly down to coming from Citroen 1.9 XUD power Wouldn't complain if there were to be a few more ponies/MPG to be tapped into though. (average MPG on our S80 manual is 43.2 at the moment, how does that compare to your V70 with the auto and tuning box?)

That reminds me of a friend who kept the original carb and inlet manifold in his car in case of an accident, hoping to switch it back in the event of an accident!
I kid you not...

Haha I can believe you. Brings to my mind a slightly different situation where a guy carried a spare cam belt in his boot, on the basis that if he had it with him he wouldn't need it! Whatever works for you I guess, but on an interference engine I'd much rather just replace it well within it's interval...

Is there any smoke with this box fitted? if there is a lot, it will not be doing the VNT turbo any good, Dave |
