Default AdBlue Critically Low - Just 3100 miles

Hi,

My car is showing critically low AdBlue in car status. I have a MY18 XC90 and is 7 months old. I wasn't expecting this refill so early.
Anyone else has/had this experience

I had a loan car the other day with 4k miles on it and the adblue warning was on the driver display.

Not unusual and Volvo say so:

Just refill ASAP at your nearest petrol station

Wife’s RR took 12 litres after 3000 miles. Euro Car Parts with a discount code is cheapest, critically low isn’t good though, you should refill at the first warning as it will eventually fail to start and need recovered.

It uses a lot more if you’ve a lot of short journeys.

Thank you all...I can see a Shell Petrol station dispensing AdBlue at a some distance from me. Can I use the AdBlue pump?..I think those are meant for trucks but guess they are same.
Hope I won't look stupid trying to fill AdBlue using pump for my car.

I dont know if you can use the pumps, I believe due to the high flow rate trucks have a magnet in the filler neck that the pump nozzle see’s as it can overcome cars.

I would head to Halfords instead and buy a 10 litre tub,

I fill my BMW up from the shell pump , think they call it Air Blue. At the last fill, I paid 69p per litre, 10 litres usually lasts me around 8000 miles. Considerably cheaper than the main dealer. When my wife buys her XC60, we'll be doing exactly the same.

69ppl isn’t at all bad. It can be bought cheaper but it does mean buying from motor factors in 25 litre or 205 litre drums, which for less than a five car fleet, is not worth the bother.

The consumption of Adblue in cars has been quite low, but I suspect that to meet the very latest reality-based tier6 standards, many brands, notably Mercedes and VW, will have to increase the dosage. Up to about 5% by volume relative to diesel would be ‘normal’.
I believe I worked out previously on this forum that someone’s Volvo used about 3% by volume. On the other hand it could have been on a commercial vehicle forum. I don’t remember.

That is about twice the price that a local tractor dealer was offering it early this year. £11 for 20 litre drums. No spout included though. Your price includes VAT though. My prices don’t, so most people should add 20% to my price compared to Halfords or the very competitive Shell pump price.

Thanks for the tip. I decided to go to the shell fuel station and started the car. Checked my car status again and interestingly the AdBlue warning message is gone and it was showing 2.4 gallons available in the tank.
Not sure what happened. Either it was showing incorrect message earlier or incorrect message now.
I am planning to wait couple more days before refiling Adblue if required.
