Default Potential issues with cars equipped with Park assist

I received a letter in the post today, which said:

“Volvo’s quality follow-up procedures have identified a potential issue wth a number of Volvo S90, V90, V90CC, XC90 and XC60 vehicles, Model Year 2019, equipped with Park Assist.

Incestigations have identified that in a limited number of vehicles, the Park Assist system may not work as intended and will not warn you of obstacles around the vehicle whilst using this function. New software has beeb developed in order to rectify this.”

I was asked to arrange to get the car to the dealer to get this new software update. Did anyone receive a similar letter?

Not yet for mine.

Tell you what though, watch out for those rear mounted bicycle carriers with no bikes on board on other cars when you park. The arms stick out a long way and are thin black box section. They are hard to spot and too high up to show on the parking camera or be detected by sensors.

They should be banned in my opinion, unless fitted with a marker and light board at numberplate height or lower at the extreme rear end of the sticky-out arms.

I notice from your signature your XC90 is a 2017 MY. The letter states the issue is with 2019 MY vehicles. I am not sure if you would receive the letter.

You are absolutely right about that; where else would people be allowed to drive around with two spikes sticking out from their car?
A builder friend of mine once came back to his van to find a hole in the back door where a woman reversing out of a parking space had stabbed it with the leg of a cycle carrier. She couldn’t understand it as her reversing beepers said she had plenty of room to go back.

Would have thought that if it was a software issue, it would be a common problem with all current models.

Had ours updated this morning while it was in for something else. Can't honestly say I can see a difference. Perhaps the front sensors are a bit less sensitive - I am not sure though as only had the car a week, so not sure how they did work before.

I received the letter, but haven't had the fix yet (got my XC60 last month - from an order placed in April, guess this makes it a MY2018)
I rarely use the parking assist, but coincidentally last night thought I'd give it a go. The Volvo tried to do a parallel park into a bay parking space

The sensors are a bit hit and miss, I often will get the side alert in stationary traffic, or a random front alert, plus I don't think they are very good at actually doing what they're supposed to, almost like a delay, by the time you get the constant tone you're actually embedded in the wall!

Picked up my MY19 XC90 mid June, I haven't received a letter yet!
