Front vacuum engine mount
2004 S60 D5
I've watched Simon's excellent Youtube videos and now know my front mount doesn't hold vacuum - when the vac pipe is connected there is the clattering sound from the oil filler cap, when I remove it and block the pipe it goes. Will it do any harm driving around for a while with the pipe disconnected and blocked? I'd rather spend my money elsewhere this month so I'm happy to put it on the "to-do" list if I can. |

Dash will display engine service required message. Will hear whishhhh soubd. Slight less power from the engine becauseof the vacuum leak, the tugbo valve won't open full.

There's no loss of vacuum with the pipe blocked off, just that he engine mount isn't working properly - however I suppose it wasn't before either?!?

I had this issue before. I drove around for 6 months and then changed the mount after that.

Hi, I’ve just replaced my XC70’s front mount. After using Sirobb’s videos to check the vac system it was that mount that was leaking. However since replacing the mount the only noticeable difference is that the engine seems to be quieter at idle; which is probably the whole reason behind the use of this type of mount?
No change in engine performance has been noted. Perhaps I should break out my vac tester and check the turbo actuator? Bill

If the vac line is blocked then there's no effect to the VNT system.

For those who have actually replaced their mounts, did the replacement mount actually stop the popping noise?
Mine does this as well. The only reason I ask is that when I talked to my local Volvo indy re this issue (popping noise when oil cap is removed) their response was "they all do that sir". Just curious. |

I put it down to a worn (but still working fine) vacuum pump - it had done 250k+ miles.

Interesting. I know that my popping noise stops if I block the vac pipe. I guess I should get a cheap vac gauge off ebay and test the mounts.
