fan belt tensioner
V50 1.8 2007 Engine starting issues
Hi all , thanks for the time here - - Lost all power when driving (steering, everything, all the lights on dash on), road side assistant put hand-wash on belt and it seemed to grip and start Volvo garage changed alternator, asked to change belt but apparently it didn’t need one - Wouldn’t start again - just ticking from the fusebox - Electrician diagnostics, no power leaks found - New larger battery installed - Not starting again but was turning over the belt unlike before. Ive put hand wash on the belt and it started! https://drive.google.com/file/d/101U...ew?usp=sharing Im replacing the fan belts and tensioner this week, maybe this? Also changed the sparks 6 months ago, there was some oil on one, possibly gasket on the way out contributing Any thoughts about it being something else, maybe its a cluster thing, or the starter. Just want to avoid getting stranded up the mountains here! Thanks for the time reading this guys. A not gripping aux belt won't stop a car from starting - you can run one for a short period with the belt off. If adding detergent in the form of hand wash allowed the belt to rotate, I would suggest that the detergent has reduced the friction between the belt and a seized pulley and allowed the engine to turn over. If it were my car, I'd take the belts off completely, and turn each pulley by hand to check for a seized one.
