V50 Engine 2.0D : Crank no start after sitting for 2 weeks

Hi all,

My 2006 v50 2.0 diesel will not start after having sat for 2 weeks. The battery is almost new and is fine - it didn't did during that period. It cranks but does not fire.

I had this very problem a couple of years ago and tried all the usual things to get it going again and eventually it did start, and has been fine ever since, apart from sometimes it hesitates under acceleration in the few minutes after a cold start.

I had problems with air in the fuel line at the start of the year but that went away when I changed the fuel filter housing and has been fine since (apart from the occasional hesitation mentioned above).

Since the non-starting after sitting for a while has returned, I'm wondering if it is a problem with 1 or more injectors not being able to maintain the hight fuel pressure while the car isn't running and it all leaks away, allowing air to get up by the injector itself - is that a thing? (I don't see any air in the fuel lines).

I'll continue to try to get it started but I'm now concerned that the problem will return again.

Anyone got any thoughts on what it might be and what I might need to do to fix it?

i would try re bleeding the fuel system a tow start after might get you going. after you have it running you need to do a leak off test on the injectors a new fuel filter might also help..

Thank you - yes I plan on bleeding it but need to find the time - last time it took ages (near the beginning of the year, put a new filter and filter housing in - should still be ml shouldn't it at less than a year old?), and this time I have a newborn and time is scarce.

Is a leak off test a DIY job?

Did the car have a constant 12 volts during the time it was standing or did the battery go flat? If the later then some cars could loose the ECM memory , a software reload at the dealer would fix it.

doesn't it normally say immobiliser fault when the ecm needs the re load clan ?

Definitely had full voltage (although I didn't measure it) - battery is almost brand new, and it cranked over at full speed when I tried the first time.

I just went out with my wife while the baby was napping and I cracked off the high-pressure lines at the injectors while she was cranking and after doing all four, then doing the first again (one closest to driver side), it started. This tells me it was definitely a fuel pressure/airlock type of issue. I'll see if I can find someone who can do a leak off test as it seems like this is the likely cause, at least in my opinion.

There's a volvo specialist called Voltek near me - I searched the forum but didn't find any info - anyone used them? Presumably any garage can do a leak off test though?

bleeding the fuel system should only take 10 mins with a good vacuum device mitty vac or similar. yes leak off test is diy watch a couple of you tube vids to see whats involved with leak off testing please be care full opening diesel injection systems the pressure can puncture the skin and cause infections in the body avoid doing this if possible or wear thick protective gloves

No , Thats why it took a while to figure it out when this first stared happening.
It might have a "checksum" code.
