Hi, I was just wondering if you got anywhere with this in the end? I have the same issue, though it started occurring last summer so not cold start related..
The car has been in the garage (not Volvo dealer) for several weeks now and he is struggling to find the problem, after I had basically done everything I could with it.. I think me clearing the codes didn't help him either! Initial symptoms: 'Lumpy' running Very hard to start What I've done: Replaced fuel filter Added hand pump to fuel line (before filter) Replaced fuel rail and pressure sensor Replaced crank sensor Replaced cam sensor Replaced throttle body/MAF Replaced spill pipes, requiring removal of inlet manifold which had a thorough clean while off Cleaned EGR valve/relating pipes I can't afford to scrap the car, had it 6+ years and I love it but I'm at a loss as to what to do next. n.b. There are no longer any codes present either |

Hi, I had a similar problem and went through many of the same repairs that you did. In the end I discovered that the fuel pressure was low. Two things I did (continue to do) seemed to have worked. 1) I replaced the O ring that goes into the fitting (brass) going into the Siemens high pressure pump. I used starter spray to get it started after replacing the O ring and it fired right up. 2) You may think this odd, but I do not let the fuel tank go below 1/4 full. There is no additional fuel pump on my model and apparently the Siemens pump was struggling to pull the fuel through the line (bubbles in he clear line weren't moving). 3) One other thing I did that I don't see you mention is that I replaced the fuel filter housing when changing the filter- apparently these can develop a crack/leak however I am not sure whether this contributed to the fix. Crazy as it sounds now that I keep the fuel level at 1/4 minimum, I ahve not had a problem - 6 months now. Good luck, Dave PS: Before this fix I also replaced the EGR valve and Fuel Pressure sensor. |
