Low or High Press Turbo - XC70 conv to Gas

Hi all

I am looking to buy a low press turbo XC70 and have come across one with a 2521cc 210bhp engine in a 2005 model. Can anyone advise if this is low or high press version? I think it's low but I would appreciate confirmation please!

Reason is I want to convert to autogas and I gather the low press turbo makes a far better conversion and is a much more robust unit. Any comments?

Hello Dai

I have an xreg v70xc 2.4t 200hp manual (2000-2003 model). I am considering an LPG conversion. I understand that the 2003 onward xc70's suffer from weak heads that can't handle an LPG conversion.

I'm just wondering if my car can safely be converted and whether there are any issues.
I am going on holiday to Anglesey at the end of August so if I decide to convert to LPG Id get it done then if you were free?

Hi Ian,

no issues on your age car. The later cars need some extra work to prevent any issues. The problem with the later engines is a common one and many cars need the valve saver system to prevent VSR.

I've no Bookings in August yet but well worth booking early.

-Will there be a drop in power?
-If I'm currently averaging 27mpg, what will it average after conversion (approximately)?
-Also what system would you recommend and what will the likely cost be?

Hi I have just had mine done in halifax,
140K miles, no problem,
BSR system £1600, Bit steeper than Classic swede, but local.
Cannot feel changeover, and just as ecconomical.
go for it and get dai to do it stay over the night.

A very high milage car could have problems but as your engine has now run in at 160,000 there should be no problems. I've converted pleanty of cars at the 200,000+ miles - even one 240 that had done over 300,000 - its never to late as long as the engine is healthy.

You will not notice any drop in power especialy with a turbo as LPG is very high ocatne. NA engines can loose a couple of BHP but you would need to put it on a dyno to tell.

MPG wise expect a small drop to say around 24-25 MPG from your 27

System wise either the standard system we offer @ £1250 or you could upgrade to the Prins type injectors taking the total £1375. If you only intend to keep the car for a few years then go for the basic kit or if you would be keeping for a very long time it would be worth upgrading.
