V50 2.0 Diesel what should I know?
Hi just a quick one. I'm going to look at a 2006 diesel V50 (128k miles) sport this weekend with the view to purchase. It has a full service history. It will be my first Volvo. Is there anything that I should look out for initially and expect during ownership? I am really keen to get it, but don't want to jump not knowing all information. Would really appreciate any advice. Thanks

I hear there's been some turbo issues but I have really come across anything with my own motor. Check for air bubbles on the fuel line around the filter. Sometimes they haven't been seated right when fitted. AUX belt and idler condition And Alternators can be an issue too However, it's a good Diesel engine and you'll be fine. Good luck with the new motor. TT

A V50 is more expensive to maintain than a V40 1.9D if you don't get a good warranty and the recommended max service interval is far too long for a DPF equipped diesel. 10K km (6000 miles) max oil change interval even for a non city based one in my opinion, or the Bio content in the diesel fuel will increase which thins out the oil and causes a lot of extra wear (Hence the higher turbo failure rate for dealer serviced V50's). A new DPF (Might be due if not replaced already) is about 750 quid for a cheap one. The rear self levelling shocks and front rain sensing screen are both near 1K Euros to replace (You can't fit cheaper V40 parts), as is a new turbo. It's still a good car IF you can find one with a low mileage, in good condition AND with a full 3 year warranty. If the one you are looking at is not A1, it's only worth scrap value (About 500 quid), particularly if it has any current fault codes for the DPF, turbo or injection system.

I would say expensive bits are starter motors, they get abit of a whine to them and duel mass flywheels when they wear out and become noisy
