Well done

You are a man after my own heart. You listened to the doom mongers and thought - the job cannot be that difficult, can it. You then had a close look under the car and thought - I'm going to have a go at that and see how I get on. One hour later job done and you left wondering - how was that difficult.

A job is not difficult if you know how to do it, the problem is, we do not always know how to do it and it takes a little ingenuity to find out.

Yes , I have the back suspension out of my car to change all four bushes and the brake lines.
Did you use a Volvo bush or a pattern one?
Glad it looks like it is not too bad to do.

Roger.

I couldn't find anything much about fitting them online, everything I did find seemed to assume you were doing it as part of a bigger job.

I undid the old bush and prised the remains out. With the end of the axle in the bottom corner of the cavity there was very nearly enough room to get the new bush in so I helped it along with a gentle tap of a copper mallet. Once the bush was in the cavity I had to wedge the axle in a position that would allow me to get the bolt in the end, then I just had to put the other two bolts in. I must have got it in the right place because no adjustment was required at the alignment check.

These are the bushes I got, a pattern part but they seem well enough made. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291871657770 I only replaced the broken one, the other one will be going in the shed for now.

Today I fitted a new driver mirror glass as the heating had gone in the old one, I fitted the trim panel on the boot once the repair kit had come in the post, fitted new wiper arms on the headlights and the little battery clip I noticed was missing. Finally, I picked up a tiny bulb-holder from Volvo for the bulb for the gear-selector and hey, now I can see what gear I'm in in the dark. It was terribly fiddly as the whole holder and unit had melted beyond recognition and I did not want to wait 7-10 working days for one of the parts to come special order from Sweden.

All left to do know is to refit the centre consol when the bits come, hopefully tomorrow, convert the driver seat to electric and then do the handbrake, exhaust, VVT solenoid and suspension all round.

Put 2 new tyres on and swapped a part worn for the spare. All I need now is a jack lol.
Struggled some more to try to get my key fob working. Still no luck. See post.

Not today, but in the last week...

New o/s headlight
New o/s wing mirror
New SC-805 to replace the 802 that kept blowing the fuse
And a new battery - saves all that jump-starting!

Now to get him scanned (engine management light on), sort out the squeaky steering column.

Of course, when I say 'new' - only the battery was actually new!
