Unhappy Fuel pump relay for Volvo 940

Have been told that the problem we are having with our car is the fuel pump relay. Have had a look in the Haynes manual but can not find where to locate the relay. As you may gather I am not a machanic, but are desperate to get the problem fixed. Could any one help. It is a Volvo 940 se, Petrol 2l injected, 93 on a L plate. Thank you very much.

Remember to remove the cubby hole above the ashtray before you try to change the fuel relay - makes life much easier.
I think that is described in Haynes.
All the best,
Ben

The fault is normally down to a dry joint on the relay's pcb. If you have a soldering iron you could try re-soldering the connections. It might save you the cost of replacement.

A bit late so I hope you've fixed the problem. The advice about re-soldering the joints is spot on. I had the same problem and took that advice but not until after I had bought a 2nd hand relay. Got one going spare for £7 (cost to me on e-bay) plus postage if you need one.

I had a problem with the fuel pump relay - it turned out to be a quick fix.
I had no fuel bar pressure - so either the pump or relay - pulled the relay.
Pulled the cover off and it looked ok. no burntout coil etc. Poked around
with my meter and lo and behold the contacts were open circuit. Quick
clean with some 1200 grit wet/dry and fixed.
