injector cange d5 185 hk
my engine started to viberate under 2000 rpm, loss of power.
took of covers over injectors, started it and disconected injectors one at time,(el connection) cylinder 1,no change in vibrations. 2-5 big cange.(mutch more) that indicates cylinder 1 is misfiring. ordered new injector, and looked for instuctions for changing injector. facts: yes you can change injetor and use it without updating data system. an upgrade is recomended for optimal engine.1 hour job on volvo service shop. |

Have you tried using a direct feed injector cleaner ??
About half of all injector faults are caused by gum deposits and all you need do to remove them is use a direct feed cleaner. The easy way to do that is to fill up the fuel filter housing when changing the filter. I use Liqui Moly Diesel Purge every time I change fuel filters and half a can (250 ml) is enough for a filter fill.

Does yours have the grey engine cover then being the 185. I was under the impression the euro 4s needed there injectors coding to the ecu unlike the earlier euro 3s which have a class code. I need to change an injector only euro 4 but thought it would be a dealer job as per my posting on here I was told this was the case by clan who we all know knows his onions so I'm not going to say he is wrong would be interested to know how yours runs now

I am confused about something else in your comment though as mine has the later injectors and the grey engine cover but the V5c says it's 163bhp not 185? |

They did a 163 (badged 2.4D) which you have and they also did a 185 (badged D5).

To Ampmaster
Can you explain a bit more in setting up the injectors. I have the later ones, and the program mentions that there is nothing to do to set them up? Mine is 2003 163hp John Last edited by JohnL; Dec 11th, 2015 at 14:24. |

With that engine and year, yours don't need setting up.

I ended up buying a heavy duty removal kit with a slide hammer. This did the job but it took a while and I had destroyed the injector. I have also read of people that had resorted to breaking the rocker cover so they could then take the head off to get the injector out. It is often mentioned that this problem stems from people removing or changing an injector and failing to replace the copper sealing washer that fit far down inside the hole. Using the old washer does not seal properly and combustion gas leaks up past it and forms carbon all around the injector side wall which seizes it in place. The daft thing is that the new washers are less than £1 each. |
