Smile Cambelt replacement - which are one time use fastners?

Im due to replace the cambelt & aux belt on my S60 D5-185 euro4 soon,

Which fastners are one time use & need replacing? does the crank pulley nut? need replacing (the one thats torqued to 300Nm). Am going to replace the aux tensioner,

I did my petrol with the crank pulley in situ. Having checked with RUFE none of the tensioner or idler bolts are single use. I did note that the aux tensioner is a revised design without a centre bolt so that can be ignored.

I would suggest that given the much higher torque on the diesel it is prudent to replace the centre nut and the 4 holding bolts on the crank pulley. I also see that some people choose to Loctite the cam belt tensioner bolt but as the original had no signs of any locking compound and is not specified as single use I re-used it as it was.

Having read the thread of a tensioner bolt pulling out of the block I would again suggest that this was not down to the bolt but to stripping the female thread in the block by over-tightening as on the petrol it is a lowly 24Nm

Hope that helps but suggest you verify for yourself given the differences between petrol and diesel

yes the crank pulley nut and the 4 small bolts which ARE Stretch bolts and must be tightened with the correct proceedure . How will you lock the crank pulley for tightening the Nut to 300 nm afterwards ?

Smile Book time

Clan, many thanks for that info on the bolts - sounds like a lot of garages dont replace the bolts or nut from postings ive read here.

As you say that 300Nm nut is the problem piece, so i will probably get a garage to do it who have the volvo pulley holding tool that bolts on using the 4 smaller bolts.

Do you know the 'book time' for swapping the cambelt & aux+tensioner and realistically how long does it take when you have the right tools? I would prefer to do it myself but it does sound like removing & torqueing the nut up could be a problem unless the car is up on a lift, also most torque wrenches ive seen dont go to 300 !

If anyone actualy saw how the crank rotates at low rpm on a diesel engine in slow motuion they would soon get into the routine of changing the bolts !

The time for the timing belt and aux belt , rollers and tensioners is 1.5 hours .
It used to be 54 minutes just for the cambelt and Aux belt before the idlers had to be changed ..
