Cool V70 Cambelt Change ?

Had the V70 D5 for 3 weeks now. Its got a good service history & states that the cambelt was changed at 90k.......its got 153k on the clock now. Can anyone advise as to whether it should be renewed yet, as thoughts of an engine rebuild if it does break, fills me with dread !

It should be fine , BUT it isnt the cambelt itself which causes problems it is the black plastic rollers on the aux belt , take the belt off and spin them if they sound rough and dry then replace them , some side rock is normal , a self aligning feature ..

The old peace of mind question. The Volvo interval was 8years/96kmiles when my car was new so officially you have a few miles to go yet. However imho field jobs are not as good as factory and it's probably prudent to shorten intervals as the beast ages. If you intend keeping it past 180k but less than 270k and are concerned then why not bite the bullet now and have the peace of mind for the time you are driving it. Dont fret about the cost of an engine rebuild , it won't be a realistic option.

Cool

Thanks for your help. The local garage (Not a Volvo dealership) has quoted £188.00. They say they will check the water pump & if need be change that at the same time....at additional cost of course.

Default Cam Belt

Hi gjm120761.

Yeh, the garage was Willingham Motors, Berrycroft, Willingham CB4 5JX - 01954 260467.

This was back in August 2011 & I paid £188 + V.A.T (sorry forgot to mention the VAT) to have a cam belt kit & drive belt fitted.

No probs at all with garage, but I now use Kings of Witcham as they are Volvo specialists & know their V70's inside out.

Hope it helps.

That sounds like a reasonable price, was quoted by a Volvo specialist in Wales 215.00 GBP all included. It would be wonderful if there was a link to all known Volvo Specialists around the country, recommended and with reviews of the members on here or have I overlooked something there ?
p.s. The V70, what year is it ? Does it differ a lot if one has a V70 classic, a V70P1 or V70P2 ?

Default Cambelt

Thanks. I have used Kings for years on some stuff but they are a bit of a trek from Cambridge City. John in servicing is a top chap but I have found over last year or two that they are only marginally cheaper than the main dealer, Marshalls. Don't know the Willingham Garage but always a bit nervous about not using a specialist inside the engine but maybe I'm worrying too much.

Kings want £780 to do the 8 year service (cambelt is 350 of this) plus another £700 for discs and pads all round.

Halfords Autocentres want 460 for the brakes and to be honest I'm not sure that there is a real quality difference. My car has only done 75k and the genuine discs are finished and the pads have always sprayed brake dust all over the wheels.

On the subject of brakes, you can watch a youtube vid where V70 discs and pads are changed in 20mins per wheel - and the main dealer wants an HOUR per wheel! It really is just a few nuts'n'bolts so I can't see how someone can do a bad job.

Seems proposterous that when I saw a Consultant recently under BUPA he charged only £20 per hour more in labour to fix me than the garage wants to do the car!

Cheers for now

Gray

The official time to change front pads and discs is 72 minutes and rears are 84 minutes , so just over 2 1/2 hours not 4 ! its a rip off .
