Seems my local volvo dealer is having a bit of a nightmare.

Checked with another local Volvo dealer and the 6 yr service is indeed £900 plus, but not because of the cambelt, but because it includes the diesel particulate filter renewal. The cambelt doesn't come into it at all.

I'm happier to give the DPF a miss than the cambelt, so booked in for the normal service instead.

Going to have a word with the local dealer about this cam belt mis-information though, caused me a lot of stress for nothing. Think he has just seen the price and guessed what's involved without checking.

And to think I was going to Volvo to make sure I got the expert reliable service! A bit let down by Volvo if I'm being honest...

Thanks again.

You don't ever change the Particle filter on the 5 Cylinder diesel ! Only the earlier 1.6 D 16 valve ...

what's going on? Am i right in saying two volvo dealers in a row have got it wrong on two different service items ?

According to the volvo service page at least one of the 2.0L does, at the 6 year service. Although admittedly they dont have a 2.0 D3 163 listed like mine.Take a look at the screen shot.

It doesnt matter,i wouldnt have that done anyway until it died.

All I want is a service by a reputable dealer - not sure i can find one now. Never had this trouble before... But then all my other handbooks have always listed exactly what each service entailed, rather than just saying - 72000, get it serviced, we will tell you then what it needs...

So top and bottom is, ignore DPF claims, and ignore Cambelt claims as they are 4 years and 40,000 miles too early...

This said, I'm told it's not actually a "recall" as such in that it will only be actioned when the car is "in" a Volvo dealership. I've forgotten the specific term used, but I was reliably told it wasn't "a recall".

I also believe the no-cost replacement offer ends in Dec of this year, and is contingent on the car having done at least 55,000 or thereabouts iirc.

All this said, the Volvo dealer most local to me refused to action it as the car only had 32,000 on it and of course was not going to hit the 55k or whatever between sept and dec!

Strathmore Volvo in Perth were, however, quite happy to do it if I booked the car in for a "summer health check". £30 well spent, especially as they balanced the wheels properly and re-aligned the h/lights at the same time as doing a few other minor jobs on the car and didn't charge extra for that work. Which was impressive.

So check with your local dealer and if necessary check with others nearby.

Guess where I'll be taking the car for future work - - customer service counts.
