Confused. Com about turbo
So,
Sorry but never had a diesel vehicle other then 4x4s or vans before. And getting info from some Mechanics I know seems normally useful but I start getting confused about my v70. It's a 2003/4 v70 d5 automatic It has a oil drip on the front. It is coming from the plastic pan under the radiator. I know it can be only the intercooler as nothing else is there with black oil. I have no loss on any fluids over the last 1400 miles. But its becoming visible again to start dripping of the plastic.just slightly. Some mechanics telling me there should be no oil around the intercooler and it need a new turbo some say is oil cooled, then I have some telling me its a big turbo behind the engine which cost a lot. I don't have vida and I can't get any info from Google about it. Can some honestly tell me, - can the intercooler drop oil without the turbo being bad? - how can oil come out over the intercooler - would someone have some info or pictures about the turbo on this car? - cn someone tell me what turbo actually is in this car as I get Google stuff for it about 70 to170 pound, but they look like the being smaller as the big housing behind the engine. I have no idea what to look for, to do to get it fixed ASAP if necessary, leave it because it may isn't any other then just old and is dripping oil as normal. Look for a bargain turbo and get it replaced, replace intercooler.?? I don't intend replacing everything to make a new car as I just done this on a range rover and never get back the investment when selling. What need to be done is OK, but not what is just because it hase his age and is still working fine. So any help is appreciated as I would like to keep the v70. We have a 96 mk2 and it never had any problems over the last 8 years but is a petrol. So, diesel is something new to me on the volvo side. Thank you |

Yes it will be the intercooler split . No it's not the turbo it is normal for oil deposits in the turbo pipes as breather fumes are drawn into the turbo and as they are pumped through the intercooler they condense on the inside of the cold intercooler. it is only a small amount of oil which finds its way into the engine and gets burned as intended.

Gok.
That helps. Thank. I started getting worried when some said the turbo on his way out and there should be no oil in the intercooler, especially not dropping out. It's my first diesel volvo so I have no idea. I guess it's about finding out if the maf is on the engine or intercooler to get the right one, and exchange. As far as I seen its only 2 types intercooler for this car? 1 with maf on the intake pipe one without but nothing other then that. I watched some videos about intercooler exchange, bumper off, the black top panel of and loosen the brackets, slide out, new in connect put all back together. Don't think it's a bigger job as my range rover painfully done to me on a lot things. Lol |
