Powerflex bushings don't fit in wishbones/front control arm?
Hi,
Finally got round to getting poly bushings fitted on my 2003 V70 R but they don't seem to fit. https://www.powerflexusa.com/shop/pr...trib=#attr=973 Says they replace OEM parts 9465971 / 9443882. These are listed on VIDA as the bushings for my car. My mechanic says hole in the control arm tapers and there is no way the new bushing will fit in the hole. Have I got the wrong control arms on my car? I can't find the part number stamped on them anywhere in VIDA (9492119 and 9492120). I don't want to try to buy the standard Volvo bushings to try to get them to fit if these are the wrong arms. Is my only option buying whole new control arms? Or finding a 2nd hand pair? I don't really want to buy new ones at even more cost. :-( Last edited by Nick6262; Sep 6th, 2022 at 12:35. |

Powerflex bushing definitely fit in the arms. I used original Volvo bushings and powerflex bushings.

they are a bit of a squeeze but they 100% do fit
I did a long post about my efforts back when I did it but the gist of it was having to bobbin sander a few thou' from the inside face of the wishbone and slightly linish the outside of the poweflex bushing until it hammered in with a solid inteference fit I think there is a bit of variance in the arms because the other side went in just using a press albeit with a bit of struggling more recently i read a thread about someone who used some scaffold pole with a notch cut out and basically just used a better / more powerful press it doesn't go in easy, that's for sure |

I think I have the wrong/unusal wishbones on the car.
Just found this post https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showp...88&postcount=3. If you look at the wishbone you can see the whole for the rear bushing is longer and is entirely within the arm. In your pictures and on Skandix on all the replacement arms the bushing sticks out the far side of the arm. Maybe the bushings won't fit in this style of arm? In the post above it's the old style of poly bush that doesn't have the metal sleeve on the outside. The mechanic says there's almost 1 cm difference in diameter between the sides? |

It looks to me like that is an older style of bush whereby like you say it's all poly with no outer collar
BUT the wishbone in that thread has not had the old collar removed, they've just drilled out the rubber part inside and left the collar in if you use a magnet you will find that the wishbone (alloy) is a seperate part to the collar (steel) even though they seem to be one moulding It was a total pig of a job though, by far the most annoying thing I've ever done on a car, but end result worth it (assuming it stands the test of time) Last edited by stuart bowes; Sep 6th, 2022 at 13:25. |
