The original grey is one of the nicest colours for the 1800 IMO and I certainly wouldn't change it. Metallic paint isn't "right" for a '63 car. It would also, again IMO, devalue the car. However, it's your car and the choice is yours. Perhaps choose a suitable Volvo charcoal, there are several shades, to keep it in the family so to speak, if you go down that path.

I am doing mine in Ferrari gun metal grey. I know it is not an original colour, but im keeping mine for a long time and so wanted it in my choice. I love it. However, I am noticing a fair few now are being painted in gunmetal.

The gunmetal is nice and will complement the red interior the darker colours I feel don't complement the car lines
Thanks you for your replies I will keep you posted |

My vote would be to stay with the original colour it looks great on the car but this site shows all options Volvo customers had when they were ordering their new car.

Keep it to the original grey. It looks good in that colour and, as others have said, metallic paint just doesn't right on cars of that age.

Groundes-Peace, is that pic of the 1800 paint code 71 graphite grey? My Amazon is code 80 grey and I have wondered about a different shade, this one does look good. On the other hand sometimes when you see a pic on the web in a colour you know, it can look a lot different.
